About this Research Topic
Analytical instrumentation has highly improved in recent years with the addition of advanced hyphenated techniques based on mass spectrometry. However, sample preparation still constitutes a vital part of any analytical method. In recent years, sample pre-treatment procedures have experienced significant changes and improvements; in particular, motivated by Green Analytical Chemistry principles. Those include reduction of sample and reagents, especially toxic ones, minimization of energy use, automation, etc. This has resulted in the introduction of new and more environmentally friendly extraction sorbents and solvents, miniaturization of extraction procedures, use of nanomaterials for extraction and clean-up purposes, etc.
The main goal of this Research Topic is to provide a general vision of the most recent and challenging preparation procedures that have been successfully developed and/or applied in the last years in the bioanalytical, environmental and food analysis fields. Contributions specifically focused on the application of Green Analytical Chemistry principles would be greatly acknowledge since they really represent the present and future of current developments in the sample preparation field.
We invite submissions of Original Research and Review articles in themes including, but not limited to:
• Innovation in analytical methodology along with the extraction or separation techniques.
• Novel green solvent- and sorbent-based sample preparation techniques.
• New extraction solvents and sorbents for sample preparation.
• Advances in sample treatment automation techniques.
• Advances in miniaturized green extraction techniques.
• Green Analytical Chemistry applications on environmental, food and bioanalytical analyses.
Keywords: green chemistry, analytical chemistry, sample preparation, extraction, sample pre-treatment
Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
